Nanoscience is under way in the Science Center, as Greg Clark (physics) and senior Kyle Watson study the properties of an electrically conductive polymer (plastic) called ploy-3 hexylthiophene on a highly-oriented graphite surface. P3HT holds much promise for making smaller, less-expensive transistors, diodes and solar cells, explains Dr. Clark. The Indiana Academy of Sciences is underwriting the research with $3,000.

Congratulations to Brent Archer (30 years), Gary Montel (20 years) and Dave McFadden (15 years) on their service to Manchester College. Last month, the staff also celebrated the 5-year service of Jack Gochenaur, Lisa Gregory, Donald Lewis and Fred Lucas.

Another cathedral performance is in the making for our A Cappella Choir, on the evening of Oct. 30 in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Notre Dame University. The music will all be Manchester College originals, from Deb DeWitt’s “Prayer for Peace” to Debra Lynn’s arrangement of “Lift Every Voice.” The public is welcome (and alumni!) to the “peace” music celebrating St. Marcellus Day. Details to come.

Children’s books needed. Elementary education graduate Rani Iqbal ’05 is teaching pre-school English in Turkey and building a library of children’s books (new or nicely used) for children age 3 to 6.
