Recycling bins coming our way. MC was one of 85 “communities” selected from a pool of more than 1,400 applicants to receive 40-60 recycling bins to place around campus. Coca-Cola Company and National Recycling Coalition are funding the bin grant, sought by Jay Nussel (college advancement). Click here for more.

The Fall 2008 Final Exam Schedule is online, with special exam times listed at the bottom. Change of exam requests (see registrar for form) must be submitted by Wednesday, Dec. 10.

It’s in the mail, or in your mailbox … the all-new Manchester magazine. Redesigned, refocused, and with an incredible Manchester magazine web page all of its own so readers can read on and on about all the cool goings-on at Manchester College and by alumni. Thanks to the creative web designs of Karen Failor and Dan Chudzynski.

Manchester Symphony Orchestra presents music of the season for its Sunday, Dec. 7 concert. The orchestra of community members, staff, faculty and students take the stage at 3 p.m. in Cordier Auditorium with a program that includes Sleigh Ride, Symphony No. 1, Winter Daydreams, Orpheus in the Underworld and Concert Suite from the animated film, The Polar Express, and more. The concert will end with a Christmas sing-along. Here’s the MSO link, with program notes by Jim Adams (art).

I Love MC Because … That’s the theme of a student photo exhibition hosted by the Manchester College International Association. The exhibit runs Dec. 4-14 in the College Union. For the opening reception (7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 4) the panels of photographs will be in the Lahman Room of the upper College Union. Music, refreshments … we’re all invited to see what our students see in us!

We’re in for a musical treat on Friday, Dec. 12, when MC’s choirs and symphonic band (and alumni) present Winter Rhapsody at 7:30 p.m. in Cordier. We’ll enjoy the range of our students’ excellent voices in Carol of the Bells and receive a special treat: visiting artist James Hersch will perform with the A Cappella Choir. Debra Lynn and Scott Humphries will conduct.

RSVPs for the Holiday Celebration, our annual gift from the Board of Trustees, are due Wednesday, Dec. 10. This year we party on a Friday night: Dec. 19, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Most should have received their invitations by now. But we need to register so planners can plan! Do it easily online, or contact Terri Jones (president’s office) at x5050.

The annual Christmas staff luncheon at Tall Oaks is Wednesday, Dec. 3. RSVP with Anna Judy (HR) by Nov. 25, x5559. We’ll gather at Maintenance by 11:45 a.m. next Wednesday for van shuttles. Of course, the hearty are welcome to walk; limited parking.

Why can't I park on College Avenue? Because we  need the space for the "cherrypicker" to negotiate while Dave Good (groundskeeper) and crew clean the leaves out of the gutters of the College-owned houses along the street.

Seats are still available on the Chicago shopping bus trip on Thursday, Dec. 4. Here's the story. Contact the alumnioffice@manchester.edu or x5223 or 888-257-2586.

Thanks to Abby Fuller (sociology/peace studies).

Drivers still needed to send off (and welcome back) a January Session class. Contact Scott Strode, x5350, to volunteer.

Students in Brad Pyrah’s Non-Profit Management class are on a $20,000 mission to help provide a new playground for Manchester Elementary School. They are off to a great start: A chili supper for Manchester Elementary parents raised more than $1,600 and that 13-team student/faculty dodge ball tourney last Friday gained $390 for Project Playground. Here’s the rest of the story and a link to Project Playground.

We can help the Class of 2008 with its Senior Gift by hiring a senior to do odd jobs, etc. Need windows washed? A babysitter? Basement or garage cleaned out? Moving help? Hire a senior! Just e-mail Jenny Perusek (college advancement) with the job and wage estimate, and she’ll set you up!
