Career Experience

Making decisions about what career field to pursue next involves these steps:

1. Know Yourself

2. Research Careers

3. Get Experience & Make a Plan

Get Experience

Once you have a career in mind (or several), the best way to confirm your choice is to get real experience in the profession. Get the first-hand perspective by talking to people in the field (information interviews), job shadowing, volunteering and interning. Below are some ways to get experience and ideas to work on your career development before transitioning from your current job.

  • Job Shadow or Talk with an MU Graduate
  • Volunteer
  • Intern
  • Join a Professional Association
