The
Manchester College Office of Volunteer services (OVS) has a wide
variety of volunteer opportunities. Here is a list of projects
on which we anticipate working. There are other opportunities
available based on individual interests. The OVS will support
students, staff and faculty who initiate original projects.

Discovering the Community
Saturday, March 19, 2005-
Students from Manchester College will be visiting the Learn More
Center to help them organize and clean their offices for spring.

Saturday, April 23, 2005-
This is a tentative date, but students from Manchester College will
be traveling to Indianapolis to cook a meal for Riley Children's
Hospital. If you are interested, please contact OVS@manchester.edu
Timbercrest/Peabody
Retirement Communities:
These organizations are always in need of volunteers. Adopt-a-grandparent,
play cards, and visit at your convenience. Call Timbercrest
at 982-2118; Peabody at 982-8616.
The Beaman Home:
This shelter for abuse needs volunteers to be woman’s advocates,
transportation, child advocates, child care, fundraising, maintenance,
special events, and facility needs. For more information call

The
Food Pantry:
North Manchester’s food donation center provides services to local families.
Volunteers needed to help shelve and sort food. Contact the
OVS or Rowena Greer at 982-2325.
The Thrift Shop:
North
Manchester's thrift store seeks volunteers to sell and help sort
clothes. The Thrift Shop is now located at 108 South Mill
St.
Call 982-4592 to volunteer.
American Red Cross:
A
series of blood drives occur on the campus of Manchester College.
This year they will take place on September 13, November 28, February
14, April 18 from 12-5p.m. in the Lower Union. Volunteers
are needed to donate, help with checking in donors, and set up of
the station. Contact OVS.
CROP Walk:
This organization helps feed starving people and disaster victims
all around the world. Volunteers needed for registration table,
rest stations, motivators along the route, and walkers with pledges
on May 5, 2002. Contact the OVS.
Discovering
the Community:
The purpose of DTC is to encourage volunteer service and also to
provide service opportunities for the Manchester College community. One Saturday a month has been designated
for the program. September 15, October 27, November 10, December
8, January 12, February 16, March 9, and April 13 are all dates
that DTC will be volunteering at various organizations around the
community. Look for more information around campus or contact
the OVS.
Habitat
for Humanity:
Students, staff, and faculty participate in helping building homes
for families. Every spring break the Habitat group joins other
students across the country to build houses. Local projects
are also in need of volunteers. Contact Rone Davis or the
OVS.
AIDS
Task Force, Inc:
Based in Ft. Wayne,
this organization needs students to get involved with light receptionist
work, public relations, transportation of clients, and compiling
the newsletter. Contact the Volunteer Coordinator at (219)

Pathfinder
Services, Inc:
Group home volunteers needed to work in the North Manchester facility. Call 982-7049 for more information.
Big
Brothers/Big Sisters:
Positive role models are needed, or you can become a mentor to one
child. Contact the OVS or call 563-7727 for more information.
Short term volunteer projects:
Often the OVS has calls for one-time projects such as house cleaning,
painting, or moving furniture. Please contact the OVS if you
are interested in helping.
Long
term volunteer projects:
Mission trips, summer volunteer opportunities, work trips are all
available to those who are interested. (BVS, Catholic Network
of Volunteer Service, VISTA,
