Coach Stan takes job at Taylor University

There comes a time in every person’s life when they have to make decisions about what to do next; this time has come for eighth-year women’s soccer head coach and MC professor Scott Stan. Recently, Stan has decided that moving from Manchester College to Taylor University is what works best, at this point in his life, for him, his career and his family.

“Right now, I think that I might fit a little better at Taylor University, because of what the university is offering me,” Stan said.

Stan has been considering the move for quite some time now; especially since this was the third time Taylor had offered him a position. He finally took this last offer because it matched him better than the two previous offers.  Next year at Taylor, Stan will be the woman’s soccer head coach along with assistant athletic director.

“I really like teaching and will miss being a professor, but Taylor also told me that I could be an adjunct professor every once in awhile, if I wanted,” Stan said.

There were a few other reasons that swayed Stan’s decision to go to Taylor. His family resides in North Manchester, but his wife has worked at Taylor for eight years. Since he has chosen to also work at Taylor, their commuting will be cut down significantly. Stan also likes that Taylor has a “little bit of a bigger soccer program” and it is a scholarship program.

However, this does not mean that he will not miss MC. Stan came to Manchester after he had been teaching at a high school for a few years and decided he wanted to be a professor. Manchester was the first school that offered him a good position and that was also fairly close to his home in Chicago.

“I was very pleased with my choice,” Stan said. “I found everyone very friendly and nice, and I also liked the atmosphere of the college.”

Stan has been named HCAC Woman’s Soccer Coach of the Year three times in his years of coaching at MC. In his eight years here, Stan’s fondest memory was the first time his girls soccer team won the conference championship and went to the national tournament in 2003.
