On March 26th, the PERC received several new fitness machines and this purchase gave the workout room a well-needed face-lift. The college also switched the machines around to make for a more productive and better lifting environment.
All the old Paramount lifting machines were replaced with newer and better machines along with three plasma TV’s. Some of the new machines include a new oblique abdominal machine, chest fly, leg press, leg extension, leg curl, triceps machine, an entirely new dumbbell rack, new bench press and squat stations, and an elliptical and two treadmills. The college kept a few machines that were still in good shapes. With these new additions, our work-out facility is now up to date on equipment for athletes and students alike.
Jeff Grabowski said: “The best part of the new machines is more treadmills, so I no longer have to wait to run during the cold seasons.” Previously the students would to wait to use a treadmill since there were only three to service the entire campus. Things also became congested when students coming in to work out had to wait to lift weights because some of the machines were broken due to misuse or just old age.
Austin Blomeke said: “I really enjoy having new equipment that isn’t broken. I really like the new set up; it is a lot more open and allows students to walk by easier.” When the PERC was filled with students in the old set up, it was rather difficult to get around. The problems are now fixed with all of the new equipment and the MC community for years to come will enjoy the benefits of this new PERC.
The new set up included a more efficient way of arranging the machines. For instance, the treadmills and cardiovascular machines are all in a row going down the windows in the front and the newer lifting machines go along where the cardio machines quit. Also, the bench press stations now face each other and are evenly spaced for easier access to other machines.
The new addition could now possibly become a hot selling point for new Mc recruits. Before the addition, one could assume that prospective students would be less than impressed with the PERC because it couldn’t compare to other schools who had updated their gym. The problem has since been remedied though and we have the college to thank. The college has listened to student concerns and purchased the machines the students were asking for.
