Spartan softball stays strong

The women’s softball team has had their fair share of ups and down this season, with disagreeable weather and constant rescheduling, but they are still going strong.

The Lady Spartans are coached by Kendra Marlowe. This is Marlowe’s first year at MC and she is acting as Interim Head Coach of the women’s softball team. Marlowe was also the women’s volleyball Head Coach this past fall.

“The team is a young team, but they are showing many improvements,” Marlowe said.

So far the women’s softball team has won four out of their sixteen games. The team consists of 15 players with the three seniors, Jenn Allen, Tish Bitner and Lisa Heaton, as the team’s captains.

“We went through some challenges but we still have a lot of fun,” Bitner said. “Our team sticks together and we just hope to finish out the rest of the season and conference strong.”

Marlowe has many positive remarks about her team and players. “They are all working really hard,” Marlowe said. “However, we are consistently having the players play in different positions to try and find the right combination that works best for us. I still feel like there is a lot of season left to play. The team shows potential when we do all things right, offensively and defensively.”

It has been a rough season for the women’s softball team, with many cancellations and rescheduling. They have only gotten to play two conference games because of bad weather and it is hard to make up their games because of conflicting schedules.

One of the senior captains, Lisa Heaton, has stayed positive and only hopes for the best of what is left of the season. “We have overcome a lot of adversity with weather and other factors, but we have a great time with each other and playing softball and that is what matters the most,” Heaton said.
