‘Concert on the Mall’ will wrap up Peace Week

Peace Week will end on a sweet note on Saturday, April 26, with the sounds of the seventh annual Concert on the Mall flooding the area. Hosted by the Campus Ministry Board, with assistance of the Peace Studies Institute, the concert is expected to kick off at noon and end around 6 p.m.

Carol Fike, a sophomore education major and Peace Week committee member, is involved with planning the concert, and is familiar with many of the artists who will perform at the show.

“[Praying] for peace is kind of the theme of the day,” Fike said. “[So] A’Cappella Choir will be singing ‘Prayer for Peace.’”

Other musicians scheduled to make an appearance will be coming from near and far, and are both new and familiar. Many Manchester students will set aside homework and study time for instruments and microphones. The college’s Handbell Choir will display their talents to the crowd, and another group, made up of Manchester students Ryan Deeter, Josh Faudree and Zach Glenn, will bring a more modern, rock and roll sound to the stage.

Even a former professor will return to campus, and he won’t be teaching. Lee Krahenbuhl, who formerly instructed communication studies courses at Manchester, will send messages through folk-inspired songs instead of lecture. “Lee is no stranger to performing at [the] Concert on the Mall,” Fike said.

Brittany Kusserow, a folk musician from Muncie will take the stage for the second year in a row. “She [was] asked back after [giving] a great performance last year,” Fike said.

Homeless J, a well-known rock band in the Fort Wayne area, will also perform. The hype of an EP release last June increased the band’s fan base greatly and area radio stations are now supporters of the group as well.

Sheerie Ann, a peace-inspired artist, will also contribute her messages to the show through an acoustic performance.

While music will be the main ingredient to the Concert on the Mall, attendees will also have the opportunity to snack on free food, purchase band memorabilia and visit booths representing several different peace organizations and other campus groups.

Should weather interfere, the show and other activities will go on in the event’s backup location, the PERC, at the same scheduled time.

The Concert on the Mall is open to everyone, including out-of-town visitors, for free. With musicians from across the state coming to support this particular event, the week of festivities is expected to wrap up in a very entertaining and peaceful manner.
