2010 Pathways Summer Service
Introducing the Pathways Summer Service Students! Three students are participating in the Manchester University Summer Service Program this summer. They each will be spending 10 weeks at a site volunteering and making a difference in someone’s life. |

Samantha is a junior,
environmental science major |
Samantha Fernandez will be traveling to Camp Boggy Creek in Central Florida with the greatest kids in the world! Camp Boggy Creek is one of several “Hole in the Wall Association” of camps located throughout the USA and the world which were founded by the late actor, Paul Newman. Camp Boggy Creek is a year round medical camping facility for children ages 7 to 16, who suffer with chronic or life-threatening illnesses. The mission of Camp Boggy Creek is to enrich the lives of seriously ill children and their families by creating a life-enhancing camp experience that is exciting, empowering, memorable, safe and medically sound. Their summer programs allow kids a week of fun, adventure, and independence: catching their first fish, shooting a bow and arrow, making a woodshop project, climbing a tower or just spending quality time with new found friends helping them to create some incredible memories that will last not just a week, but a lifetime. |

Kelsey is a junior,
social work major.
|
Kelsey Gower will be traveling to San Diego, California and will be volunteering with the Church of the Brethren in two locations in San Diego. She will be working with the youth programs as well as with the overall church functions and celebrations. She will also be working at the Peace Resource Center. The Peace Resource Center was established to provide a clearinghouse of peace and social justice resources, issues and activities; to promote networking among peace-related organizations; to offer nonviolent alternatives in conflict resolution; and to carry on an expanding program of peace education in San Diego County. The Center provides an ongoing presence throughout San Diego County to counter and alter violent approaches to problem solving--interpersonally, nationally and
internationally and works to point out the links among issues of peace, social
justice and a safe, sustainable environment. |

Jeremiah is a junior,
music major |
Jeremiah Sanders will be traveling to Rhinebeck New York to volunteer at Camp Ramapo. Through direct service youth programs and highly regarded training programs for adults, Ramapo works on behalf of children who face obstacles to learning, enabling them to succeed in the classroom, at home, and in life.
With 90 years of experience, Ramapo for Children has developed a unique ability to create inclusive environments that promote positive behavioral change, foster skill development, and help support learning and personal growth.
At the heart of the Ramapo approach is our ability to equip educators, caregivers, and youth with the skills they need to build trusting relationships, serve as effective role models, handle challenging behaviors constructively, and improve
continuously through reflective practice. Jeremiah will be working in the music and
drama programs this summer. |
