Homecoming & Family Weekend 2013 - Special Celebrations

Band and Choir Reunion and Concert
Dust off that clarinet or warm up those vocal cords! Manchester is calling all musical alums to perform with current students in the annual Homecoming concert Friday, Oct. 4 in Cordier Auditorium. We’re not looking for perfection — just MU grads who love music and enjoy a chance to practice and perform alongside current student musicians.

Arrive early enough Friday to practice. A 90-minute choir rehearsal begins at 3 p.m. in Wine Recital Hall. Band rehearsal is set for 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Cordier. At 7:30 that evening, you’ll all take the stage together for a concert that’s as much fun for the performers as it is for the audience. Reception to follow.
For more information, contact the Music Department at 260-982-5296 (choir) or 260-982-5331 (band). We hope you will join us!

Working for Peace
Each year at Homecoming, the Peace Studies Department honors an individual or individuals who have made significant contributions toward making the world a more peaceful place. Along with reflections on the lives and accomplishments of these pioneers for peace, a plaque is added to the peacemaker wall bordering the Gladdys Muir Peace Garden.

This year, Peace Studies honors Wangari Maathai, founder of the Green Belt Movement and a 2004 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. Alumni are invited to celebrate Maathai’s contributions and listen to words from our guest speaker. Saturday, 2 p.m., Gladdys Muir Peace Garden.

Let’s Meet at Wilbur’s!
New traditions are being formed at Manchester all the time. Thanks to the McFaddens, future students will build some new traditions at Funderburg Library.

When Dr. Wilbur McFadden ’53 wanted to honor the McFadden family’s four-generation Manchester roots, his children and grandchildren convinced him that “Wilbur’s” would be an inviting and fun name for a place where current and future students can relax, grab a bite and study late into – or through – the night. The dedication will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 5. Let’s meet at Wilbur’s!
