Payment Expectations

Financial aid from the University and other sources is viewed only as supplementary to the efforts of the student and the student's family. Students requesting financial aid are also expected to contribute toward their college expenses through summer or college employment and/or loans in any reasonable combination.

A student will not be allowed to register for any subsequent terms if there is an unpaid balance on the student's account. Semester grades, academic transcripts, and diplomas are withheld from those who have not settled their financial obligations to Manchester University including, if any, collection fees attorney's fees and court costs.

Students are not fully registered, nor will they have the privilege of class attendance, participation in activities, or use of University facilities until their charges are paid or until satisfactory arrangements for payment are made through Student Financial Services. A service charge of 1.5 percent or $30, whichever is greater, may be added to any unpaid balance on the student account as of the due date. Additional service charges will be added to remaining balances as of the last working day of each month.

The deadline for the insurance waiver to be completed is August 1 - no refunds will be available after September 1. For additional information regarding health insurance please visit www.manchester.edu/OSD/Health/Files/Health_Srcs_insurance.htm.

Auto Registration
All vehicles on campus must be registered. The auto registration fee is automatically charged to all students. Resident and commuter students must complete the Auto Registration / Waiver form, available on Gateway. If a resident student will not have a car on campus, complete the waiver to have the fee removed from the student account.

Commuter students are not eligible to waive the auto registration fee.

Outside Scholarships
One-half the total amount of outside scholarships will appear on the statement for each semester.

Loans

  • Federal Direct Stafford Loans
Students who complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form are eligible for Federal Direct Stafford Loans. Maximum annual loan limits are as follows: $5,500 for first year students, $6,500 for sophomores, and $7,500 for juniors and seniors. First-year students are required by the federal government to complete an entrance counseling session and sign a master promissory note at studentloans.gov/. The U.S. Department of Education charges an origination fee which is deducted from the loan amount before the funds are applied to the student’s account. The origination fee beginning July 1, 2013 is 1.051%.

  • Federal Direct Parent PLUS
The parent of a student that has completed the FAFSA may apply for a Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan. Parent(s) will complete a separate credit based application to qualify to borrow in this program as well sign a master promissory note at studentloans.gov/. The U.S. Department of Education charges an origination fee which is deducted from the loan amount before the funds are applied to the student’s account. The origination fee beginning July 1, 2013 is 4.204%.

  • Private Education Loans
After exhausting the opportunities available from the federal aid programs, many students will consider private education loans as a source of funding. (Remember there are Federal Direct Loans that may be more beneficial.) A private education loan is in the student’s name and requires a credit-worthy cosigner on the loan. Fees charged are specific to the selected lender. Contact Student Financial Services for additional information.
