Facilities and Resources

Manchester University biology and environmental studies majors find exceptional facilities in which to study the sciences, including the 85,600 square-foot Science Center, opened in 2005, and the Koinonia Environmental Retreat Center and nature preserve just 12 miles from campus, where students get practical field experience.

If you'd like to see Manchester's excellent facilities in person, schedule a campus visit!

Science Center
The Science Center houses all the sciences and includes new laboratories, classrooms equipped with the latest technology, student lounges, a third floor greenhouse, and offices for the entire science division.

Laboratories and Classrooms
The Department of Biology has four main teaching laboratories and a greenhouse equipped to study everything from micro-organisms to mammals. All laboratory sections at Manchester University are taught by full-time professors, not lab assistants. Small class sizes and personal attention give biology students the opportunity to communicate and work side by side with the professors. Biology students are encouraged to conduct individual research projects, as well as participate in group projects and internships during the course of their studies.

Koinonia Environmental Retreat Center
The Koinonia Environmental Retreat Center and biology field station is located 12 miles north of the main campus. At 100+ acres, this nature preserve includes a five-acre kettle lake and wetland complex (accessible from the shore, pier or from two row boats), a restored prairie and hardwood forest habitats. There is also a paved mineral resource trail, created by Indiana Mineral Aggregates Association. A two-story building on the property houses the nature center, biological field station, and retreat center. Class and seminar rooms, environmental laboratories, food preparation and overnight housing facilities are also part of the building.
