Curriculum Vitae

John Deal received a B.S. degree in Political Science from UNC-Charlotte in 1979. After spending time managing businesses in the private sector, Professor Deal received a doctorate in Economics from North Carolina State University in 2004. His primary fields of study were agricultural economics, international trade, and economic development. He came to Manchester College in 2005, and has been the chair of the Department of Economics since then. Professor Deal teaches a variety of microeconomics courses, including Principles of Microeconomics, Intermediate Microeconomic Theory, Environmental Economics, and Game Theory and Behavioral Economics. He is currently working on research in the area of economic education, and attempts to incorporate creative teaching techniques, such as the use of material from The Simpsons television series, in the classroom.

Curriculum Vitae

Sreenath Majumder grew up in Calcutta, India. After obtaining Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Economics from University of Calcutta, India, Dr. Majumder moved to Houston, Texas in 2004 to pursue doctoral studies in Economics at University of Houston. Soon after finishing his Ph.D. in 2009, he joined Manchester College.

His areas of research interest include Applied Macroeconomics, Political Economy, Economic Growth, and Open Economy Macroeconomics. Teaching is a passion for Dr. Majumder. He teaches courses in Principles of Macroeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, Principles of Microeconomics, Econometrics, and Economics of Globalization. He believes that the study of Economics is not simply juggling facts, figures, and theories, but is learning to comprehend the world around us. Each class of Economics is for him a podium to amalgamate analytical and creative skills.
