     School readiness is an issue of increasing importance. Extensive research conducted on preschoolers entering kindergarten suggests a strong correlation between early school success and later success in school and adulthood. Conversely, the lack of school readiness is correlated to inhibited success for years to come, sometimes for a lifetime. As quality of life gets better or worse for individuals, so it does for communities.  Therefore it is vital that those institutions of learning and their communities collaborate to provide high quality, sustainable early school readiness opportunities for children in the preschool and daycare centers.

     The Early Learning Project proposes to improve readiness in preschoolers in Wabash County through a collaborative, research-based emergent literacy program.
