Program Requirements

Manchester College offers two academic programs in Gerontology:

Associate of Arts Degree in Gerontology
Gerontology Minor

Associate of Arts Degree with Major in Gerontology

1.  34 credit hours, including:

     SOC 101 Introduction to Sociology
     SOC/SOWK 220 Social Gerontology
     SOC/SOWK 371 Advanced Gerontology
     SOWK 110 Introduction to Social Services
     SOWK 274 Practice Methods in Social Services
     SOWK 275 Practicum in Human Services
     SOWK 334 Human Behavior in the Social Environment
     PSYC 101 Introduction to Psychology
     PSYC 331 Psychology of Aging

2. Three hours of electives in recreation or crafts selected in consultation with advisor.


Gerontology Minor

1.  24-26 credit hours, including:

     BIOL 102 Human Biology-Stages of Life or BIOL 204  
     Fundamentals of Human Physiology
     PSYC 101 Introduction to Psychology
     PSYC 331 Psychology of Aging
     SOC 101 Introduction to Sociology
     SOC/SOWK 220 Social Gerontology

2.  Two guided electives (6-7 credit hours), selected in consultation with advisor and approval of Gerontology program director, chosen from:
