With 19 intercollegiate sports and up to 75 percent of our student body participating in intramural athletics, it's no surprise that sports are an important part of life at Manchester College. But unlike other schools, we place special importance on the positive effect athletic competition has on our student-athletes, rather than focusing on collegiate sports as entertainment.
SAAC WELCOME RALLY GREETS STUDENTS
The Manchester College Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held its second annual Welcome Rally on Tuesday. SAAC offers input on the rules, regulations and policies that affect student-athletes, while focusing on student-faculty relations, community service, facility and events, and student-athlete welfare. more>
NEW PERC RENOVATIONS TO BENEFIT STUDENTS OF MANCHESTER COLLEGE Over the summer months, Manchester College’s Physical Education and Recreation Center (PERC) received its second major renovation since its original construction in 1982. The $1.5 million project funded additional locker rooms, new athletic training facilities, new classrooms and a resurfacing of the PERC’s Stauffer-Wolfe Arena. The Brown Fitness Center also upgraded several of the cardiovascular training equipment to meet the demands of the growing Manchester College student body. more>
SPARTAN MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM TO FACE FORMER COACH STEVE ALFORD'S NEW MEXICO SQUAD IN EXHIBITION GAME
The Manchester men’s basketball team will travel to Albuquerque, N.M., for an exhibition game against the University of New Mexico Lobos on Saturday, Nov. 6. The Lobos are lead by former Manchester College Coach Steve Alford. Last year, New Mexico went 30-5 and were a three seed in the NCAA Tournament. Manchester finished their season 17-10, with a loss in the semi-finals of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. The Spartans return their top seven players from last season.
Manchester College junior Kailey Honn became the sixth National Champion for Manchester, winning the women's high jump event at the 2010 NCAA Division III National Outdoor Championships.
Honn, a Westfield, Ind., native broke her own school record with a height of 1.78 meters (5'-8"), defeating conference rival Elizabeth Evans of Rose-Hulman by one inch.
