
4.26.09 - MANCHESTER SWEEPS ANDERSON IN DOUBLEHEADER ACTION
Manchester posted a pair of conference wins on Sunday over Anderson 6-4 and 3-1 to close out the regular season.
In the 6-4 win, Kristi Brown recorded seven strikeouts with four runs scored on eight hits. Danielle Blevins led the offense with a 2-4 performance, driving in three runs on a solo homer in the first inning and a two RBI single in the fifth. Rosemary Bond finished 1-2 with a two RBI double.
Erica Bush was the winning pitcher in game two, throwing all seven innings with two hits allowed and recording two strikeouts. Manchester scored all three runs in the third inning as Blevins and Chelsea Kunkel had RBI doubles and both finished 1-3 on the day. Bush and Emily Watkins finished 1-2 each.
Manchester improves to 17-20 overall, 9-7 in the HCAC.
4.25.09 - TRANSY SWEEPS MC IN DOUBLEHEADER ACTION
Manchester dropped a doubleheader to league leading Transylvania on Saturday, losing game one 3-0 and game two 7-4.
In game one, Kristi Brown was the losing pitcher, giving up two runs on seven hits with a pair of strikeouts. Brittney Miller, Holly Morris and Amy Hommema recorded all three hits for the Spartans.
Manchester scored two runs in the sixth and seventh innings of game two, but fell short in a 7-4 defeat. Erica Bush struck out five, allowing two earned runs on seven hits to record the loss. Chelsea Kunkel went 2-4 with two RBIs and a run scored to lead MC. Jade Kennedy finished 1-2 with a run, while Emily Watkins, Miller and Rosemary Bond added a hit each.
Manchester falls to 15-20 overall, 7-7 in the HCAC. They wrap up conference action Sunday at Anderson.
4.24.09 - HUNTINGTON SWEEPS MC IN DOUBLEHEADER ACTION
Manchester snapped its six-game win streak on Friday as Huntington defeated MC 8-5 and 5-0 in non-conference action. Holly Morris suffered the loss in the 8-5 win by Huntington. SHe allowed six runs on 13 hits with a strikeout. Ashley Poe went 2-4 with an RBI, Aja Neumann went 1-2 with an RBI and Amy Hommema finished 1-4 with an RBI.
In game two, Rosemary Bond took the loss, throwing six innings with six hits and five strikeouts. Katie Scott broke up Huntington's perfect game with the Spartans' lone hit in the seventh inning.
Manchester drops to 15-18 overall and returns to action at home Saturday as they host Transylvania starting at 1 p.m.
4.23.09 - MANCHESTER POSTS SIXTH STRAIGHT FOLLOWING 4-1 AND 8-1 WINS OVER HANOVER
Manchester's softball team picked up a pair of wins over Hanover on Wednesday, winning game one 4-1 and game two 8-1.
In game one, Kristi Brown recorded six strikeouts to move her single season and career records to 111 for the year and 266 for her career. She gave up two hits and one run in seven complete innings. Brittney Miller was 2-4 with a run scored and a stolen base. Chelsea Kunkel and Emily Watkins were 1-3 with an RBI, while Holly Morris, Amy Hommema, Katie Scott and Rosemary Bond each had one hit.
In game two, Manchester scored three runs in the first and five runs in the second to pick up an 8-1 win with Erica Bush recording a win. Bush had seven strikeouts for MC. Miller finished the day 3-4 with a run scored, Danielle Blevins was 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, Amy Hommema had a pair of two RBI doubles to finish 2-3 on the day and Bush finished 2-3 overall.
Manchester improves their record to 15-16 overall, 7-5 in the HCAC. They host Huntington on Friday, Transylvania on Saturday, then travel to Anderson on Sunday for the final game of the regular season.
4.18.09 - MC POSTS FOURTH STRAIGHT CONFERENCE WINS IN TWO 5-4 VICTORIES OVER FRANKLIN
Manchester picked up two softball wins on Saturday as they defeated Franklin College in a pair of 5-4 victories.
In game one, Kristi Brown was the winning pitcher, throwing all seven innings with six strikeouts. She allowed three earned runs on nine collective hits by Franklin. Danielle Blevins was 3-4 with two RBI, recording a double and a triple for MC. Katie Scott, Holly Morris and Addy King also recorded hits for MC.
In game two, Erica Bush picked up the win in seven complete innings. She struck out one batter and allowed two earned runs on eight hits. Blevins recorded her second triple of the day, going 4-4 with two RBI. Chelsea Kunkel also added two RBI, going 1-3 at bat. Bush went 3-3 with a run scored to lead the Spartan offense.
Manchester improves to 13-16 overall, 5-5 in the HCAC. They return to action Tuesday at Anderson, host Hanover on Thursday in a re-scheduled game and host Huntington on Friday.
4.16.09 - BROWN SETS NEW SEASON AND CAREER STRIKEOUT RECORDS
Manchester College junior Kristi Brown (Veersberg, Ind./Attica) set a new school record for strikeouts in a season last Wednesday in game two's win over Rose-Hulman. Brown collected nine strikeouts in game one's 6-2 win, then recorded five more strikeouts in relief action in game two for her 99th strikeout of the year, breaking the record of 96 set by Nicolette Gaisor in 2001. She also topped Nancy Sherrick's record of 251 strikeouts in a career set back in 1992 after game two of the Rose-Hulman contest. Brown currently has 266 strikeouts with one more year of eligibility. Brown is currently 7-8 on the year heading into the final weekend of regular season action.
4.15.09 - MANCHESTER POSTS TWO 6-2 WINS AT ROSE-HULMAN
Manchester's softball team used a four-run inning in the seventh inning of game one and a five-run third inning in game two to pick up a pair of 6-2 conference wins over Rose-Hulman on Wednesday.
In game one Kristi Brown was the winning pitcher, throwing nine strikeouts in seven complete innings, giving up six hits and two runs. Danielle Blevins and Chelsea Kunkel finished 2-4 at bat, with Kunkel recording two RBI and Blevins one RBI. Emily Watkins finished 3-4 with a run scored.
In game two, Erica Bush picked up the win, throwing five innings with eight hits allowed with two runs. Brown recorded her first save of the year, throwing two innings with five strikeouts. Katie Scott, Blevins, Kunkel, Holly Morris and Watkins had one hit and an RBI for MC.
Manchester improves to 11-16 overall, 3-5 in the HCAC. They return to action Saturday at home as they host Franklin starting at 1 p.m.

Each March, the Manchester women's softball team spends spring break in the southern U.S. playing 10 games against regionally ranked teams. Under first year head coach Tracy Cromer, the Spartan softball team looks to continue a proud history of honors over the years, including a spot in the NCAA National Tournament in 2001.
- Senior Lisa Heaton was named to the HCAC All-Conference team for the fourth time in her career.
- MC softball has had 11 All-Region, 37 All-Conference and 12 Academic All-Conference players.
- In 2001, the Spartans were Conference Tournament champions and made their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
- Coach Cromer was the head coach at Northwestern for five seasons with three 20+ wins seasons.
