Manchester College German Placement Test
Manchester College Placement for Language Study

Before enrolling in language classes at Manchester College, all students who have studied the language for at least one year must take a placement test. Please note the following:

• The test is intended to place you at the proper level in the sequence of language courses. We want you to be challenged, but not overwhelmed; relaxed, but not bored. It is in your interest to be in the appropriate class.

• To assess your level most accurately, please do not use a dictionary or any other outside aid while taking the test. Plan to take the test without interruption; you should be able to finish within 50 minutes.

• The test is not perfect. For instance, it does not measure your oral communication skills. If you feel that your placement is inaccurate, please talk to one of our language faculty at the beginning of the semester. We will assess your language ability again and assign you to another level if necessary.

• We strongly urge you to pursue language study from your first year in college onward. This will allow you to build on previous experience, reach the advanced levels, and perhaps study abroad.

• For more information about language study at Manchester College, please refer to our departmental website.
