Jan 8 (Tue) • 4:20 EST: Fly from Fort Wayne (FWA) to Chicago (ORD) with United Airlines (UA 5345), arriving at 4:20 CST. • 5:50 CST: Fly from Chicago (ORD) to London (LHR) with United Airlines (UA 928), arriving at 7:55 GMT (the next day). Jan 9 (Wed) • Arrive in London (LHR) at 7:55 GMT. We will take the Tube into the city to drop off our bags at the hostel. • Morning: Tour of Westminster Abbey. • Afternoon: Walking tour of Westminster (Parliament, Big Ben, ...) and up to Trafalgar Square. • Early evening: Buckingham Palace and the Marble Arch, and a group dinner. Jan 10 (Thu) • Morning: A quick visit to Leicester Square and then a long morning studying art in the National Gallery on Trafalgar Square. • Afternoon: The British Museum. • Late afternoon: Choral Evensong at St. Paul’s Cathedral. • Evening: Free time for a concert at St. Martin-in-the-Fields (Haydn’s Creation) or theater. Jan 11 (Fri) • Morning: View "The Treasures" of the British Library. • Afternoon: Boat down the Thames to Greenwich to visit the National Maritime Museum and the National Observatory. • Evening: Free time (to study, attend the theater, ...). Jan 12 (Sat) • Morning: Walk along the South Bank to see the Globe Theater and a visit to the famous Borough Market. • Afternoon: Tour St. Paul’s Cathedral, and climb to the top for the best view of the city. • Evening: Free time for a concert at St. Martin-in-the-Fields (Vivaldi’s Four Seasons). Jan 13 (Sun) • Morning: Explore the Medieval wing of the Museum of London. • Afternoon: Tour the Tower of London. • Evening: Free time. Jan 14 (Mon) • Morning: Study medieval and early modern exibits at the Victoria and Albert Museum. • Afternoon: Study 18th century science and the history of medicine at the Science Museum. • Evening: Free time. Jan 15 (Tue) • All-Day: Pair-up to re-visit sites or explore the new on your last day in London. Jan 16 (Wed) • Morning: Travel from London to Paris on the Eurostar train (departing St Pancras Station/London 9:17 GMT, arriving at the Gare du Nord/Paris 12:47 CET). • Afternoon: Tour d’Eiffel (elevators to the top), boat trip down the Seine, Arc de Triomphe (and a climb to the top), a walk along the Champs Elyssee, and in the Jardin des Tuileries. • Dinner as a group. • Evening: Free time. Jan 17 (Thu) • Morning adventures on the Île de la Cité: Cathédrale du Notre Dame (crypt, church, and up the towers), Sainte Chapelle, Conciergerie, Tour St. Jacques, Pont Neuf. • Afternoon: Free time (suggestion for art lovers: the Musée d’Orsay). • Evening: Free time. Jan 18 (Fri) • Morning: Musée de Cluny (Moyen Age), and a brief visit to the Arènes de Lutèce (a Roman amphitheatre). • Afternoon: St. Séverin, La Sorbonne, St Germain des Prés, and possibly a stroll through a famous cemetery: Cimetière du Père Lachaise. • Late Afternoon: A guided tour through the Medieval Latin Quarter. • Evening: Centre Pompidou. Jan 19 (Sat) • All day at and around the Louvre. • Lunch at the Place de la Concorde or Jardin des Tuilleries. • Evening: Free time. Jan 20 (Sun) • Day trip to Chartres to see the cathedral and medieval town; Centre International du Vitrail de Chartres. Jan 21 (Mon) • Morning: A guided tour of Medieval Paris and the Templars. • Afternoon: Free time (Catacombs; Sewers of Paris; ...). • Evening: Free time. Jan 22 (Tue) • Depart Paris (CDG) at 12:40 PM CET (UA 943), arrive in Chicago (ORD) at 3:00 PM (CST). You will need to arrange for a ride home from Chicago. Jan 23 (Wed): This is officially the last day of the January Term, but we will not meet again on campus as a class.
