Free fireworks,
civic band concert celebrates Independence Day
NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. (July 2004) - For the third year, Wabash
County residents will celebrate Independence Day with music, hot dogs
and fireworks on the Manchester College campus.
The band strikes up at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July
3. The sparks start flying at 9 p.m.
North Manchester's volunteer firefighters manage
the 20-minute fireworks display on the practice fields on the east side
of the college campus. Band Director Reggie Smith will lead the 35- to
40-member Manchester Civic Band in a 1½-hour concert of patriotic
favorites preceding the fireworks.
Manchester College donates $5,000 to the event,
which draws about 1,000 people. Other contributors to the $7,000 event
include the North Manchester Volunteer Fire Department and Chamber of
Commerce members. The North Manchester Rotary International will offer
$1 hotdogs, popcorn, pop and water.
If it rains on Saturday, July 3, the concert and
fireworks will occur at the same time, same place on Sunday, July 4. |
