North Manchester, College
treat community to 4th
celebration
(2005) On Sunday evening, July 3, skies over Wabash County will bloom in
sparkling color with the annual Fourth of July Celebration – a
collaboration of Manchester College and the community of North
Manchester.
The party on the College athletic grounds starts at 7:30 p.m., when the
Manchester Civic Band strikes up for a full concert of marches and other
patriotic and toe-tapping music.
At 9 p.m., members of the North Manchester Volunteer Fire Department
will set the sparks flying. This fourth-annual Independence party is all
free.
Music of the 35-piece Manchester Civic Band, directed by Reggie Smith,
will include “Sheffield March,” “Dandy 5th
March,” “Dixieland Jazz Band Blues,” “Blue Tango,” “Pennsylvania
Polka,” “Harlem Nights,” and many other favorites.
Manchester College is the lead underwriter with a $5,000 gift to the
community. The band and firefighters are donating their service, and the
North Manchester Chamber of Commerce and local businesses also are
contributing to the estimated $6,000 total cost.
The rain date is Monday, July, 4 with no change in time or location. No
concessions are planned this year.
