NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – Manchester College inducted 21 students into
Alpha Mu Gamma national foreign language society on April 3.
Students were selected for their performance in foreign language and
academic achievement.
“Our initiates are not only impressive in their language, they are
impressive all around,” said French Professor Janina P. Traxler, chair of the Department of Modern Languages. “Our group includes two
successes in this year’s Fulbright process. There are conference
championship athletes in the group, A Cappella Choir members, a winner
of the Dean’s Symposium prize and that’s just a sample. Most will
graduate with distinction from Manchester and have well-used passports
by that time. We are proud of them now and they will continue to impress
for years to come.”
Honored at the ceremony for her generous contributions to the Department
of Modern Languages was Beulah E. Book of Muncie, a 1939 graduate of
Manchester College. Her donations honor her father, Bruce Book, one of
the college’s first professors. From 1900 to 1914, he taught French,
German, literature, industrial arts and boy’s basketball.
