College’s A Cappella Choir
warms up for its Michigan spring tour
Manchester College's A
Cappella Choir and Chamber Singers will "Lift Every Voice" for their
spring tour home concert. The tour opens at 7:30 p.m. this Friday,
May 9 at the Manchester Church of the Brethren, 1306 North Beckley
in North Manchester. Donations are welcome.
The concert is a warm-up before the 48-member A
Cappella Choir leaves on a week-long tour of Michigan churches,
schools and retirement centers with director Debra Lynn and several
recent alumni.
The program offers songs in English, German, Latin
and Slovak, mixing new music with old favorites. Featured is Prayer
for Peace, composed by former music faculty member Debora DeWitt,
which the choir performed at Carnegie Hall last spring. The Prayer
for Peace soloist, as for the New York City performance, is 2007
graduate Robert Bucher of North Manchester.
Other tour soloists include seniors Joel Waggy and
David Moan of Goshen, Ind., and Ayana Brown of Lafayette, Ind.;
junior Tedra Tague of New Market, Ind., and first-year student Najah
Monroe of South Bend. Trumpeter Nicholas Kenny, a Fort Wayne
sophomore, also will solo.
The Chamber Singers, an 18-member choir of A
Cappella musicians, also will perform, including music from its
recent Washington, D.C., tour with the College Jazz Band.
