Congressional candidates to debate
in North Manchester on April 17
Candidates for the 5th Congressional District seat will
participate in a community forum at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 17 in North
Manchester. The event, sponsored by Manchester College’s Departments of
History and Political Science and Peace Studies, will be in the Blocher
Room of the North Manchester Public Library, 405 N. Market St.
Republican and Democratic candidates will debate, said Professor Leonard
Williams, who will moderate. The public is encouraged to attend.
Republican candidates challenging incumbent Rep. Dan Burton of
Indianapolis are C.L. “Jim” Alfred of Peru and mortgage agent Victor
Wakley of Indianapolis.
Democratic candidates are businessman Mike Brown of North Manchester,
real estate broker Katherine Fox Carr of Wanamaker, and attorneys
Michael Clements of Huntington and Thomas Williams of Greenfield.
Indiana’s 5th Congressional District includes all of Wabash,
Huntington, Hamilton, Hancock, Grant, Miami and Tipton counties and
parts of Marion, Shelby, Howard and Johnson counties. |
