It’s a fact: Manchester grads
find jobs quickly after graduation
Manchester College guarantees it: Students
who cannot land a job within six months of graduation can return to
school for another year, tuition free. The guarantee is testimony to the
extraordinary – and quick – job successes of Manchester College alumni.
In its latest survey, the College learned
that almost 97 percent of its Class of 2005 are working or continuing
their education – all within six months of their May 22 commencement.
The statistic is no estimate or guesstimate. The College’s Office of
Career Services has contacted every one of the 213 May graduates.
More than 76.5 percent are in jobs, 18
percent are in grad school or other schooling and four of the 2005 grads
are in full-time volunteer work, reported MC’s Betty Butterbaugh, who
connects with every recent grad during December for the annual survey.
Only seven of the 2005 grads are still trying to find jobs; one is not
seeking employment.
The statistic is not an anomaly: Year after
year, the MC grad six-month job rate is 94-95 percent.
Almost 72 percent of Manchester’s working
2005 grads have found jobs within their fields, a gratifying statistic
in these hard economic times. Particularly successful in finding their
career jobs were majors in accounting and business, education
(teachers), and the sciences – all premier programs at the 1,104-student
liberal arts college.
Manchester’s May 2005 grads are teaching in
schools throughout Indiana – in Akron, Auburn, Avilla, Bainbridge,
Bremen, Butler, Columbia City, Crawfordsville, Crown Point, Churubusco,
Elkhart, Fort Wayne, Francesville, Frankfort, Goshen, Indianapolis,
Lagota, LaGrange, Lebanon, Logansport, Mentone, Michigan City,
Shelbyville, South Bend, Wabash, Walkerton, Warsaw and Waterloo.
Others are beginning careers as naturalists,
accountants, case workers, supervisors, management trainees, information
technology technicians and staff writers, for example.
And Manchester’s job guarantee? The college
has had to “pay up” only once with a year of free tuition, said
Registrar Lila Hammer.
The Office of Career Services offers
counseling, career profiles, job research and job connections for
Manchester College students and graduates of any age. The College offers
45 areas of study toward bachelor’s and associate’s degrees, and a
