9th Holiday
Extravaganza on Dec. 7
NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. (Nov. 25, 2003) - The sounds of the Manchester
Symphony Orchestra, Manchester Choral Society and Manchester College A
Cappella Choir will come together for the ninth annual Holiday Extravaganza
on Sunday, Dec. 7.
The afternoon concert on
the Manchester College campus includes orchestral selections from
Nutcraker by Tchaikovsky, Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson,
Skater's Waltz by Emile Waldteufel and a
Canadian Brass Christmas by Calvin Custer. Director of the
Symphony Orchestra is Robert G. Jones, associate professor of
music/woodwinds.
Choral presentations
include Shepherd's Pipe Carol by John Rutter, Myn Lyking by
R.R. Terry and A Symphonic Scenario
medley of Christmas carols.
The program premiers
Dona Nobis Pace by Choral Director Debra J. Lynn. "(Dona Nobis Pacem)
is my longest single-movement composition, 12 minutes in duration," said
Lynn, associate professor of music. "This was my first attempt at composing
a full orchestra score with chorus." The A Cappella Choir will perform the
original music on its peace tour of cathedrals in Italy in the spring.
The Holiday Extravaganza begins at 3 p.m. Dec. 7 in Cordier Auditorium.
Tickets, available at the door, are $5 for general admission and free for
students and senior citizens.
