James Hutchings to conduct Chamber
Singers
for his recital Saturday, Nov., 12
For his senior recital, K-12 music major James B. Hutchings of
Wabash will conduct the Manchester College Chamber Singers and
instrumental musicians through a multilingual “History of Western Music”
at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12. The free recital is in Wine Recital
Hall, on the east side of the North Manchester campus.
The Chamber Singers will perform in four languages – Latin,
Italian, German and English for the conducting recital. Also assisting
Hutchings are Dr. Debra Lynn, associate professor of music, on piano and
organ; mezzo-soprano Heather Petersen; Aimee Gerdes on percussion;
Elizabeth Hutchings on flute; Linda Kummernuss and Rod Morrison on
violin; Robert Lynn on cello; and Julie Sadler on viola.
The music selections include Ye Followers of the Lamb by
Edwin Earle Ferguson, Benediction and Cry Out and Shout by
Knut Nystedt, O Magnum Mysterium by Tomá Luis Vittonia,
Lebenslust by Franz Schubert,
and Hutching’s own arrangement of Kwmbaya.
Hutchings, who also plays the piano and harpsichord, plans to pursue a
master’s and doctorate of musical arts in choral conducting upon
graduation this spring from Manchester College. He has not chosen a
graduate school. His name is frequently on the Dean’s List, is listed in
2005 Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and
Colleges, and he traveled with the College’s A Cappella Choir to
perform in the Vatican and cathedrals of Italy in 2004. Hutchings
resides in Wabash with his wife and two children.
