wind musicians Nov. 30
Manchester College will present “Heritage of the Wind
Band” by its Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensemble on Thursday, Nov. 30.
The free concert in Cordier Auditorium begins at 7:30 p.m.
Reservations are not necessary.
The 30-member Symphonic Band has selected music ranging from choral
preludes to a Shaker melody to
Scarborough Fair. The concert includes
Ride, which composer
Samuel Hazo says was inspired by a ride in the Indiana countryside.
Other composers on the program conducted by Dr. Suzanne Gindin
include Aaron Copland, Robert Sheldon, David Maslanka, William
Latham and Calvin Custer.
The 10-member Jazz Ensemble, directed by Larry Docker, brings a 2006
arrangement of Cole Porter’s 1939 classic
I Concentrate on You to
the Manchester stage, as well as music from nine other composers.
The program features music by Paul Williams and Kenneth L. Ascher,
Howard Rowe, Les Hooper, Carolyn Leigh and Cy Coleman, Lennie
Niehaus, Neal Hefti, Bob Seibert and to the Manchester stage.
