MC jazz
workshop, festival
offers
concert of students and pros
NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. –
Manchester College will culminate a two-day high school/MC
student jazz workshop and festival with a concert by
participating students and professional musicians Saturday night
on campus.
“We are very excited about
offering this wonderful opportunity to our students and area
high schools,” said Scott Tomlison, event co-chair and assistant
professor of music. “We are hoping to make this at least a
semi-annual event and to bring in some of the finest jazz
musicians in the country.”
Workshop participants will
perform in concert at 6:30 p.m. in Cordier Auditorium on
Saturday, April 17. Admission is $3.
Jazz workshops are
scheduled for area high school bands and the Manchester College
Jazz Ensemble. Mark Buselli and Janiece Jaffe are guest
clinicians and performers.
Buselli is the educational
director for the Buselli/Wallarab Jazz Orchestra in Indianapolis
and member of the Butler University faculty. He has appeared
with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra as a jazz trumpet
soloist and with the Bloomington Symphony and Terre Haute
Symphony as a conga drum soloist.
Jaffe, a jazz vocalist,
has recorded three albums and was featured on the album Jazz
from Bloomington. She resides in Bloomington, Ind.
