State
health, P.E. association thrives under Kim Duchane's leadership
Under the leadership of
Manchester College faculty member Kim A. Duchane, the Indiana
Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance has
accomplished much in the past year:
- Awarded $7,000 in grants
- Awarded $6,000 in scholarships
- Lobbied legislators for physical education in
schools, healthy alternatives in school vending machines and
coordinated school health
- 5,000 Indiana K-12 students participated in
the association-sponsored All Children Exercising Simultaneously Day
last May
- 70 members attended the Leadership Conference
- Redesigned

Duchane, associate
professor of health and physical education at Manchester, will end his
year as president of the 1,000-member state organization Nov. 6 and now
will chair the 2005 state conference.
Duchane, a North
Manchester resident, joined the Manchester College faculty 12 years
ago. He also coaches youth basketball and soccer, teaches children’s
church at Sweetwater Assembly of God, developed the MC Arena Walkers for
participants 65 years and older, and organized an intergenerational
service learning project with residents of Peabody Retirement Community. |
