New performers take to
MC stage
for annual Student One
Acts
What do a coffee house, Sherlock Holmes and a group of women have in
common? Each is the subject of this year’s Student One Acts, presented
by Manchester College’s Alpha Psi Omega theatre chapter.
The three separate short plays each are directed by Alpha Psi Omega
members; the actors are students new to Manchester’s stage. The curtain
rises at 8 p.m. on three nights, Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 18-20,
in Wampler Auditorium. Admission is $1 or a can of food.
Sure Thing by David Ives is directed by Alpha Psi Vice President
Jake Ramirez, a senior from Everett, Pa. The contemporary comedy is
about two people who meet in a coffee house. Every time a gaff occurs
in their conversation toward love, the play starts over. Sure Thing
stars first-year students Megan Leese of Kokomo and Camilo Velasquez
Mejia of Nicaragua.
“Women” combines monologues from various plays into a realty TV
format, created and directed by sophomore Will Patch of Otterbein, and
juniors Megan Brown of Plainfield and Rachel McFadden of North
Manchester. The play stars first-year students Amanda Dewaard of
Holland, Mich., Amanda Patch of Otterbein and Lindsey Bryant of Monon;
and juniors Sarah Eastburn of Mishawaka and Beth Levandoski of Fort
Wayne.
Sherlock Holmes: 10 Minutes to Doom by Robert Mauro is a comedy
that begins with Holmes and Watson tied to chairs, and follows Watson’s
melancholic realization that Holmes is not as extraordinary as thought.
This play stars senior Nick Juday of Wakarusa and sophomore Eli
Hersberger of Anderson, and is directed by senior Noah Kinsey of Lake
Odessa, Mich. and junior Steven Grubb of Goshen.
“The One Acts give students a taste of performing, without the
strenuous work involved in the College’s major productions,” says Noah
Kinsey, president of Alpha Psi Omega. “That way they can decide if they
are interested in pursuing a future in the theatre program.”
Alpha Psi Omega is a national theatre organization. Every year,
Manchester College’s chapter presents the Student One Acts in the fall
and a spring play. |
