MC’s spring choral concert
blooms with variety,
two choirs and soloists
The rafters will ring with the sounds of Kirby Shaw, Robert Emerson,
Franz Josef Haydn and original music by Manchester College’s choir
director for A Spring Choral Concert. The joint performance of the A
Cappella Choir and Chamber Singers begins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April
8, in Cordier Auditorium. Tickets are $3, available at the door.
Debra Lynn, associate professor of music, will conduct both choirs,
accompanied on piano by Michael Good, a 2004 graduate of the college.
The evening’s program offers a variety of music, from O magnum
mysterium by Tomas Luis de Victoria and Set me as a seal upon
thine heart by William Walton, to Awake the Harp from
Creation by Haydn, Blue Skies arranged by Roger Emerson,
Java Jive and Take Five arranged by Kirby Shaw and
Alleluia by Randall Thompson.
The A Cappella Choir will perform its thrilling closer, The Lord
Bless You and Keep You by Peter Lutkin and another favorite, O My
Luve’s Like a Red, Red Rose by René Clausen. The choir also will
perform Tenebrae factae sunt by Director Lynn.
Vocal solos are promised by junior Rachel McFadden, sophomore Robbie
Bucher, junior Torrance Dean; improv solos by junior Meagan Harlow and
first year student Caitlin Haynes, plus a flute obbligato by sophomore
Allison Hoover.
