Manchester College Symphonic Band

concert is fund-raiser

for service trip to Puerto Rico

             

       “Crossing Borders” is the theme of the Symphonic Band concert at Manchester College on Friday, Nov. 16. The program of music isn’t the only border crossing, though.

       In January, the 34-student band will take a musical service trip to Puerto Rico, with performances scheduled in hospitals and churches. Band members also will deliver food to underserved areas and maybe even do some construction.

       The Nov. 16 concert will help raise money for travel costs while the band is in Puerto Rico. The repertoire includes popular adventure movie music, pieces from Russia and England, and Hoe Down by Aaron Copland. Conductor is Suzanne B. Gindin, assistant professor of music.

       The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Cordier Auditorium. Tickets are $5 at the door; reservations are not necessary. Admission is free for senior citizens and children under 12.
