Dec. 11 Manchester College concert filled
with “Preludes, Fanfare and Jazz”
A Friday, Dec. 11 concert at Manchester College offers up music certain to please the audience and provide great fun for the student musicians, too.
“Preludes, Fanfare and Jazz” – featuring the Symphonic Band and the Jazz Ensemble – opens at 7:30 p.m. in Cordier Auditorium. Tickets are $3; reservations are not necessary.
The program of the Symphonic Band includes the driving rhythms and Irish flair of Kirkpatrick Fanfare (with just a hint of Danny Boy) by Andrew Boysen Jr. Also on the program is the challenging but fun-to-play Prelude, Sicilano and Rondo by Malcolm Arnold. The conductor is Scott Humphries, assistant professor of music.
The Jazz Ensemble will perform a stylistic cornucopia ranging from the very traditional swing of Take the A Train by Billy Strayhorn to the more contemporary blues/rock-influenced Cantaloupe Island by Herbie Hancock (arranged by Frank Mantooth). The conductor is Tim Reed, assistant professor of music.
