Manchester University plans huge
furniture, electronics auction April 13

A massive public auction of classroom and faculty office furniture and electronics from the historic Administration Building of Manchester University is set for Saturday, April 13. Bidding begins at 10 a.m. inside the building at 604 E. College Ave., on the North Manchester campus.

Faculty and classes left the Ad Building last summer. They’re comfortably at home now in the new, high-tech $9 million Academic Center across campus. But most of the chairs, desks, lamps, bookcases, couches, tables, vintage maps, and other furniture and electronics remain behind.

Lots of the furniture and academic items are antiques. Lots are solid oak. Some were handcrafted right on campus. Lots are in great condition … or have great potential. In addition to antique-seekers and alumni, the auction is expected to attract buyers for schools and churches: More than 400 student desks, 90 computers, dozens of 17-inch monitors and data projectors and screens are up for bidding. Also on the sale bill: pews (6'4") from Petersime Chapel.

Auctioneer Larry J. Miller of North Manchester will sell everything on the spot to the highest bidders, who may preview items at 7 a.m. on the sale day. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Terms are cash or checks with I.D. Students will help haul items to vehicles; tips will benefit the Spartan Soccer Team's service trip next January session.

“Preserve a piece of Manchester history for yourself or perhaps buy a lamp or couch for a child’s or grandchild’s starter home,” says Scott Eberly, MU setup supervisor who is collecting the sale items on the second and third floor of the Administration Building. “Or perhaps you know a school or church in need of desks, tables or chairs. There’s lots and lots of good stuff.”

For more information about the sale, visit www.manchester.edu or contact Scott Eberly at 260-982-5321.
