Classes Resume

Classes will resume at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8 on the North Manchester campus. The Fort Wayne campus will re-open at 8 a.m.

A huge THANK YOU to the North Manchester physical plant, safety, residential life and Chartwell’s staffers and others who braved the bitter cold and drifting snow and worked long hours the past two days to give us a safe campus for our residential students and to clear the way for classes Wednesday.

Any commuter students, faculty or staffers who decide they cannot safely travel to campus or to their pharmacy experiential rotation site on Wednesday, please notify your professors or supervisors. Please: Make the choice that is right for your personal situation. Student and Employee safety is important to us.

Below is excellent advice from Indiana Department of Transportation:

LOOKS CAN BE DECEIVING. Sunny weather and roads free from loose snow may give drivers the impression that conditions are better than they actually are. Because salt is less effective in these subzero temperatures, a sheet of ice should be expected on ALL ROADS across Northeast Indiana.

Any road or street you travel will be EXTREMELY SLICK. These conditions likely will continue through Wednesday, when temperatures are expected rise, allowing highway crews to break up that hard-packed snow and ice.

Please, pack your winter survival kit. Take it slow. Don't tailgate. Give yourself plenty of time. You don't want to slide off the roads, or worse. Ultimately, these roads aren't safe, despite our best efforts.

East-west roads are generally significantly better than north-south roads, as winds can cause drifting snow on north-south roads. Drivers should take the time to evaluate travel routes and be alert for snow drifts and low visibility. If your county is on Red Alert, drivers may be arrested. Please do not risk that.
