The halls are alive with all things music
at Manchester College this month
Music appreciation takes center stage at Manchester College in late October with several special events for students and the community.
Performances by the Cantabile women’s choir, a “Convergence” of alumni and student choirs and bands, faculty member Jiyoung Jeoung and the Manchester Symphony Orchestra are on the calendar. All are free; no reservations are necessary.
Friday evening, Oct. 22, Manchester alumni will reunite with four music ensembles of current students for “Convergence” at 7:30 p.m. in Cordier Auditorium. On the program: Symphonic Band directed by Scott Humphries, A Cappella Choir directed by Debra Lynn, Jazz Ensemble directed by Tim Reed and Cantabile directed by Andrew Suhre.
Cantabile, conducted by Andrew Suhre, presents its first solo concert of Manchester women’s voices at 5 p.m. on Oct. 25 in Wine Recital Hall. This auditioned choir of treble voices is accompanied by pianist Joanne Case.
 Pianist Jiyoung Jeoung will perform a faculty recital of classical selections by Mozart, Ravel, Prokofiev and Schumann. Jeoung, who has a doctorate and master’s degree in piano and organ performance from Ball State University, and degrees from universities in Korea, takes the Wine Recital Hall stage at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29.
The Manchester Symphony Orchestra hosts a Family Fun all-ages concert for Halloween on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 3 p.m. The music starts at 3 p.m. in Cordier Auditorium with a program that includes highlights from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, The Zoo Song with narration and Tico Tico, a Latin samba. A kids’ costume contest and parade will add to the fun.
