Manchester University hosts a faculty piano quartet from Indiana Wesleyan University on Sunday, Nov. 3.
The performance of piano quartet music by Mozart and Brahms features Emily Thompson on violin, Jason Thompson on viola, Ka-Wai Yu on cello and Phoenix Park-Kim on piano. The 3 p.m. performance in Wine Recital Hall on the North Manchester campus is free; reservations are not necessary.
Emily Thompson, adjunct professor of violin and fine arts, plays with the Marion Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bach Collegium Fort Wayne and the Fort Wayne Baroque Soloists. In 2012, she made her Carnegie Hall debut with Soprani Compagni.
Jason Thompson, professor of music, conducts the Indiana Wesleyan University Orchestra and Opera and performs with the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra, the Bach Collegium Fort Wayne and Bourbon Baroque. He toured with Soprani Compagni, culminating in a Carnegie Hall performance.
Ka-Wai Yu is a member of the Trio Finesse, the period-instrument ensemble La Reunion Musicale and is principal cellist for Eastern Symphony Orchestra. Recent solo performances include with Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, at Doudna Fine Arts Center, Perkinson Music Center and Seoul Anglican Cathedral.
Phoenix Park-Kim, associate professor of piano, has won numerous international and national competitions and has appeared as a soloist with the Korean Philharmonic Orchestra and orchestras in Kansas City, Jefferson City, Miami and Marion. She recently performed at Carnegie Hall for the Distinguished Concert Artist Series.
