Wine Recital Hall
Soprano, baritone share stage for Nov. 18 Manchester College student recital
Manchester College spotlights the talents and range of two vocal performance majors in a Friday, Nov. 18 recital. Juniors Alex Drew and Cassie Whitaker will showcase aria and art music as they fulfill requirements for their degrees.
The public is invited to the free recital at 7:30 p.m. in Wine Recital Hall on the east side of campus.
“We have a vast range of classical pieces through all musical periods,” says baritone Drew, of North Manchester. The two look forward to their first recital and “the opportunity to perform in front of family and friends,” says soprano Whitaker, of Beavercreek, Ohio.
Whitaker will perform three difficult and famous Puccini arias and compositions by Handel, Berg, Dougherty and Zeller. Also on her program is “Lia's Recitative and Aria” from Debussy’s L'Enfant Prodigue.
Drew’s repertoire of romantic composers includes "Chio Mai vi Possa" by Handel, "Mandoline" by Dupont, and pieces by Donaudy, Schumann, Quilter and Saint-Saens.
Whitaker and Drew will cap the evening with Mozart’s popular and entertaining “Papageno and Papagena’s Duet” from the opera Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute).
Pianists for the recital are Alan Chambers for Whitaker and Pamela Haynes for Drew.
