Manchester University junior Brian Kautz is Outstanding Student of the Year of the six-state Midwest District of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AAHPERD).
Kautz, a health and physical education teacher education major from Indianapolis, became a finalist for the Midwest award when he was named Outstanding Student by the Indiana AAHPERD. Now, he joins other Outstanding Students nationwide to compete for the association’s Presidential Scholarship.
“Mr. Kautz is a mover and a shaker who pursues every opportunity to learn, earning a 3.7 grade point average,” said Kim Duchane, MU professor of exercise and sport sciences. In addition to his Dean’s List success in the classroom, the varsity soccer player is on the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic Team.
Kautz is a campus leader, serving as treasurer of the Student Education Association and shares his talents teaching physical education to home-schooled students, coaching athletes with disabilities for Wabash County Special Olympics, and tutoring children for Partners In Learning. He also is active on the Council for Future Professionals of the Indiana and Midwest District AAHPERD.
