Manchester College student receives

national education scholarship

A leader of Manchester College’s award-winning Student Education Association chapter will use a $1,000 scholarship from the National Education Association-Retired to help offset her training to become an elementary special education teacher.

Senior Jenny Mevis, a frequent member of the Dean’s List and volunteer, will receive the Jack Kinnaman Memorial Scholarship. The Lakeville, Ind., native is vice president of the state executive board of the SEA and vice president of the Manchester College club, which received the 2007 Outstanding Chapter Award.

Mevis hopes to use her May 2008 degree to work in multicultural and special education classrooms where “every individual feels comfortable.” A graduate of LaVille Jr.-Sr. High School, she is active in Relay for Life, Outreach to Teach and the Association of Retarded Citizens of Wabash.
