The Benefits of Faculty Resources and Student Learning Programs

  • The University can offer more endowed professorships, which attract and retain strong teachers and scholars from across the nation. An endowed chair can launch a new field of study or enhance an existing one.

  • Endowing the first-ever full-time Peace Studies professor, the Gladdys Muir Chair in Peace Studies, provides more academic support for Manchester’s world-renowned program. Muir established the nation’s first undergraduate Peace Studies program here, and an endowed chair strengthens her legacy and builds new perspectives on peace-building.

  • Faculty funds at Manchester support the scholarly work of our teachers, enabling them to engage in research on and off campus. That, in turn, provides undergraduate students the chance to learn side by side with faculty.

  • With support, faculty can embrace creative ideas and turn them into new, exciting undergraduate courses. They also can develop skills for effective online instruction or design hybrid courses that combine in-class learning with distance learning.

  • Faculty can develop more learning communities, an integrative approach to education that brings together groups of students to work on projects with a high level of dialogue, interaction and collaboration. Cross-cultural learning can be expanded and more service-learning experiences can be developed.

Quality teaching and personal attention draw students to Manchester. They make our fine college exceptional. But Manchester professors are stronger when they expand the boundaries of knowledge in their fields. They are stronger when they research, write, explore and experiment. Their professional enrichment can spill into every Manchester classroom with a contagious enthusiasm that cultivates a more textured educational experience for every student.
