Claude Wolfe Coach of the Year

Each year at the Homecoming football game, this award is presented to an M Association member who, by his or her achievements and contributions in athletic coaching, brings honor to our university and the memory of Coach Wolfe. The award can be based either on outstanding success in the past year or on accomplishments over the course of a several-year career.

Selection is made by Association officers from nominations by the membership, which includes all past "M" letter winners. Nominations must be received before Dec. 31.

George Gilbert '78  is the 2014 Claude Wolfe Coach of the Year. Gilbert, a teacher and football coach for the past 34 years, guided Tri-Central High School to the Indiana High School Athletic Association’s Class A state title in 2013. He helped lead an amazing turnaround at the Sharpsville area school, where the Trojans went from winless in his first year to grabbing three wins in 2010, six in 2011, and 10 in 2012. Last fall, Tri-Central’s efforts earned him a place as a finalist for the prestigious Don Shula NFL High School National Coach of the Year
award.

Prior to becoming the head football coach at Tri-Central in 2009, Gilbert led the the Clinton Central Bulldogs on the gridiron for 20 years, a career that included three sectional championships. He has compiled a career record of 194-160. Gilbert still teaches U.S./world history and sociology at Clinton Central.
