Homecoming & Family Weekend 2013 - Activities and Entertainment

Family Weekend
Welcome to Homecoming and Family Weekend at Manchester University — we’re excited to have you here!

If you’re a family member visiting campus on Friday we invite you to attend a class with your student and see for yourself what a Manchester education is all about. To attend, simply have your student ask the faculty member in advance.

You’ll find family-friendly entertainment on and off campus. Visit the residence halls, meet other students and staff, and get a feel for why our students are enthusiastic about living on campus. Thank you for sharing your student with us. We look forward to sharing Homecoming and Family Weekend with you!

Manchester’s Homecoming carnival is for kids of all ages. The future Spartans in your family will love exploring a giant maze, bouncing in a jumpy castle, and playing ring toss and other games. Cotton candy, candied apples and other carnival fare will be available, too. MU student organizations will lead the
activities, and you’re sure to walk away a winner at the prize table. The carnival begins at 10 a.m. on East Street and down the “midway” toward the football field.

Roadside Games
After your drive to campus, stretch your legs and have some fun playing cornhole or Frisbee. Students and local alums are organizing these events. Teams will pair alums with students

Cornhole sets will be available on the lawn east of the Jo Young Switzer Center (the union). Winning teams receive prizes. R.S.V.P. preferred. Saturday, 12:30 p.m.

Meet in the middle of the mall at 10 a.m. for a round of Frisbee throughout campus. Conquer some of your worst Frisbee nightmares and have a blast! Winning teams receive prizes. R.S.V.P. preferred.

“Finely Chopped” – Manchester Style
Sharpen your culinary skills and join other alumni and current students as they prepare their favorite flame-grilled burger – with a twist. Our chef will reveal the “secret ingredient” and we will have random judges from the crowd! The open pits will sizzle with tantalizing aromas for this friendly — and delicious — competition. All alumni will be teamed with current students. The cook-off begins at 11:15 a.m. at the Jo Young Switzer Center (the union) patio.
Registration fee is $10 per entry.
