It's time now to move forward into the future with
a new Administration Building that provides the
appropriate infrastructure for putting students
first. Built in stages from 1889 to 1921, the facility
is inefficient and draws away vital operating
resources. With their hearts in service to students,
our administrative departments need a home that's
livable and green and supports their efforts.

The year was 1889. Inventor Thomas Edison showed his first motion picture to a curious audience. First lady Caroline Harrison had electricity installed at the White House. Eager homesteaders staked their claims on the Oklahoma Territory. And Manchester University constructed the first section of its current Administration Building.

We’re still using it.

Manchester’s Administration Building is actually three connected sections. The central portion was erected in 1921, combining the original 1889 Bumgerdner Hall on the east side and the 1895 Bible School on the west side. All three sections were built for a different time – when buildings were heated differently and not air-conditioned at all, when electricity was the cutting-edge technology, and when today’s technology was inconceivable.

The Students First! campaign seeks to raise $6 million for the construction of a modern, climate-controlled Administration Building that will better serve Manchester’s current and future needs. A new building on the same site as the current Administration Building will have a significantly smaller structural footprint. And it will provide more functional spaces for the administrative and support services upon which students rely.

The Administration Building is a symbol of University tradition. To honor that, the new building will evoke the same architectural integrity as the original building, reflecting Manchester’s historical style. And the Chime, a beloved icon of campus life, will be preserved and moved to a new freestanding tower visible from College Avenue. THE BENEFITS >
