MU’s fund-raising VP leaving
for similar role at Eastern Kentucky

E. Michael Eastman, Manchester University’s vice president for university advancement, has resigned to become vice president for development and alumni affairs for Eastern Kentucky University. He begins his new post on Aug. 1.

“Michael Eastman’s leadership has brought many of the best practices in fundraising to Manchester, and our success reflects his work,” said MU President Jo Young Switzer. “He has been fully committed to our $100 million Students First! campaign from its first day.”

About $13 million remains in fundraising for academic and capital projects on Manchester University’s two campuses, in North Manchester and Fort Wayne, Ind. The campaign went public in October 2011.

“Michael has done a wonderful job of telling the MU story to a variety of stakeholders in ways that have helped spur the Students First! campaign to extraordinary success,” said Marsha Link, chair of the Board of Trustees. “He also has recruited and developed a terrific team of professionals.”

Eastman joined the Manchester leadership cabinet in September 2005. Prior to that, he led major gift development for Ball State University. He has also worked in advancement at University of Cincinnati, George Mason University and Anderson University.

A national search for Eastman’s replacement will begin immediately. Melanie Harmon, currently executive director of development, will serve as interim vice president until the position is filled, Switzer said, adding, “We will not miss a beat. Michael has developed a very strong fundraising and alumni relations team who will continue to work hard to reach our goals.”
