Developing the whole person is part of what we
do to put students first. With 19 intercollegiate
sports, the new Master of Athletic Training
program and more students majoring in
exercise and sport sciences, the addition to the
Physical Education and Recreation Center will
provide a stronger venue for delivering our
dynamic athletic programs.

The Students First! campaign seeks to secure $1.5 million for the recent renovation of the nearly 30-year-old Physical Education and Recreation Center. The project strengthens Manchester's academic and athletic programs, and promotes health and fitness across campus.

Whether they play one of Manchester's 19 intercollegiate sports, enjoy intramurals, or work out in the Brown Fitness Center, Manchester students reap the benefits of a bigger and better PERC. Two new air-conditioned locker rooms, each with 60 stadium-style lockers, are larger than the PERC's original locker rooms and can be joined to accommodate the entire football team. Improvements to the athletic training room allow athletic training staff to treat more student-athletes at one time, using the new electronic stem and infrared massage machines and the new warm/cold hydrotherapy stations.

More than 200 Manchester students are either studying to become physical education teachers or are enrolled in one of the Exercise and Sport Sciences (ESS) Department's academic programs. And Manchester's new Master of Athletic Training degree promises to increase enrollment even more. To meet this demand, a new wing on the southwest side of the PERC features two classrooms with state-of-the-art technology. Each classroom can seat up to 36 students and can be joined to create one extra-large classroom or a space for meetings and special events.

A more functional PERC provides a better learning environment for some of the University's most popular academic majors. It also supports the 40 percent of students who choose Manchester because they know they can get an outstanding education and excel at the sport they love. THE BENEFITS >
