Dr. William R. Eberly*DR. WILLIAM R. EBERLY ’48
of North Manchester, professor emeritus of biology for Manchester College, former president of the Indiana Academy of Science and a College and community historian. Dr. Eberly founded and led the Environmental Studies program at the College. He served as Annual Conference moderator and secretary for the Church of the Brethren. He was 84.

Dr. R. Emerson Niswander*DR. R. EMERSON NISWANDER
of North Manchester, professor emeritus of biology for Manchester College and a member of the Indiana Academy of Science. He taught future scientists, teachers, lab technicians, physicians and dentists for 32 years, from 1950 to 1982. With a recent endowment, the College dedicated the Dr. R. Emerson & Evelyn Niswander Biology Department. He was 97.

1940s

Howard McIntire ’40 of Fort Worth, Texas and his wife, Margaret, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary July 15, 2011.

R. James Hamblin ’41 of Knox, Ind., was a 2011 inductee into the Knox High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

David Lower ’41 of Wildomar, Calif., and his wife, Kathryn, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on July 11, 2011.

1960s

James Thompson ’63 of Roy, Wash., has retired after 45 years of teaching third, fourth and sixth grades – five years at Yelm Elementary School in
Washington state and 40 years teaching sixth-graders at New Haven Elementary School.

Loren Finnell ’64 of Larchmont, N.Y., has written a memoir of his 47-year
career with nonprofit agencies involved in international development and his travels to 44 countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia. He plans to donate a portion of the proceeds from Still a Country Boy, published by Mayhaven
Publishing, to Manchester College.

Jim Dwyer ’67 of New York, N.Y., is a mission interpreter for the Western
Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church. His wife, Helen Dyck ’67
Dwyer
, retired from missionary service in December 2010. The couple plans to move soon to Claremont, Calif.

Mary Dawalt ’67 Stine of Etna Green, Ind., retired in January 2011 from Biomet after 5½ years in general manufacturing. Previously, she was an educator for 26 years.

Philip ’68 and Sandra Burnett ’69 Hoskins of Olathe, Kan., recently moved to Kansas to be near grandchildren after retiring from Fairfield Community
Schools near Goshen, Ind.

1970s

Freda Clark ’71 Maxson of Sidney, Ohio has retired after teaching music for 37 years, including 32 years for Sidney City Schools.

Rick Grimme ’73 of Sharpsville, Ind., was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Indiana Association of Student Councils. Grimme advised and mentored Student Council members for 25 years, during much of his teaching at Tri-Central High School in Sharpsville, Ind. His school hosted the IASC state convention, its representative assembly and district workshop (five times).

James Colon ’74 of Palos Verdes Peninsula, Calif., was awarded an honorary doctorate of humane letters during commencement ceremonies May 7 at Martin University in Indianapolis. Colon is vice president of Toyota product communications for Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc.

Carolyn Hilles ’74 Pilant and her husband, Keith, are living and working in
Viterbo, Italy for School Year Abroad, a high school program for American
students. Hilles-Pilant is a college counselor for the program. Attempts to
establish a similar program in Japan last year were unsuccessful.

Merry Hensel ’74x Rumbold of Willoughby, Ohio is a unit secretary for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

Rochelle Walter ’75 of Kansas City, Kan., earned a master’s degree in theology in 1992 and became a commissioned Stephen Minister lay caregiver in 2010.

Tom Cook ’76 of West Lebanon, Ind., was inducted into the 2010- 2011 Hall of Fame of the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association. He now is head football coach for Seeger Junior/Senior High School in West Lebanon, where he teaches health and physical education.

Carla Griebel ’77x Mishler of Goshen, Ind., is a family physician for Goshen
Family Physicians.

David Wynn ’77 of Logansport, Ind., has retired from teaching after 34 years at Caston Elementary School in Fulton, Ind. He is working part-time in guest services for Grissom Inn at Grissom Air Force Base.

Anne Shrock ’78 Ott of Churubusco, Ind., has published her first novel, Windswept, a love story, with Amazon.com. The book is available in paperback and by download. Ott has been writing professionally for more than 30 years.

Sandra Miller ’78 Radvanyi of McGregor, Ontario, Canada is artistic director and a clowndoctor/ familial-clown (“Dr. Merry Kay”) for Fools for Health charity in Windsor and Essex County, Ontario. She has been with the program since 2004 and became artistic director 2009.

Valerie Hissong ’79 Staples of South Bend, Ind., presented at the 2010
National Eating Disorders Association conference in New York City and provided consultation and training in 2011 to University of Notre Dame staff for study abroad sites in Chile, England and Ireland.

1980s

Bill Jones ’81 of St. Augustine, Fla., and his company, ProShow Disc Jockey Service, received a 2011 Bride’s Choice Award from WeddingWire.com as
one of the nation’s top wedding professionals based on customer satisfaction. Jones began entertaining at weddings and events while he was a Manchester College student.

David F. McFadden ’82 of North Manchester is a new member of the Board
of Trustees of Bethany Theological Seminary. He is executive vice president
of Manchester College and interim dean of the School of Pharmacy.

David Barnes ’83 of Shelbyville, Ind., is a corporate claims quality assurance analyst for State Auto Insurance Co. in Indianapolis. He audits property claim files for several offices and recommends training and development.

Ron Miller ’84 of Talahassee, Fla., is chief financial officer for the Florida Department of Corrections. He held a similar position for the Indiana Department of Corrections.

Tish Leas ’85 Hart of New Haven, Ind., is with Trelleborg Sealing Solutions in the Fort Wayne area.

Rosanna Eller ’85 McFadden of Goshen, Ind., earned a Master of Divinity
degree in May 2011 from Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Elkhart,
Ind. She is a part-time member of the pastoral team of Creekside Church
of the Brethren in Elkhart.

Sherri Kremer ’86 Rouiller of Paris, France teaches at the American School of Paris.

Alex Strati ’87 of Elkhart, Ind., is northern region president for Old National
Bank. He most recently was Michiana market president for Old National.

1990s

Heather White ’90 Schilling of North Manchester earned her Doctor of Education degree in elementary education in May 2011 from Ball State University. Her dissertation title was “An Exploration of the Reading Strategies Used by Sixth-Grade Students When Reading Internet Sources.”

Alta Jane Overholser ’92 of Claypool, Ind., is a licensed mental health
counselor and licensed clinical addition counselor for Bowen Center in
Syracuse, Ind.

Howard Thompson ’92 of Stafford, Va., is financial management policy section head of Strategic Systems Programs for the U.S. Department of the Navy. Thompson joined Strategic Systems Programs in Washington, D.C., as a budget and senior financial management analyst in 2000.

Pedro Larco ’94 of Carmel, Ind., is marketing manager for Covance, one of the world’s largest drug development services companies.

Dean Johnson ’96 of Fort Wayne, Ind., earned a Ph.D. in religious and theological studies with a concentration in religion and social change from the University of Denver and the Iliff School of Theology in Denver in November 2010. He is an assistant professor of religious studies for Defiance College in Ohio.

Jeffrey DuPont ’96 of Indianapolis has launched a music website, www.
laundromatinee.com, that features original session videos of national and
international touring bands that are mainstream and up-and-coming acts.
Laundromatinee.com is in partnership with MyOldKentuckyBlog.com.

Matthew Baker ‘98 of Elgin, Okla., is video production manager for Lawton Public Schools.

Shawn Kobb ’99 of Arlington, Va., has finished his second tour as a U.S.
Foreign Service Officer in Nassau, The Bahamas. He next will serve a one-year assignment in Washington, D.C., before heading to Afghanistan in 2012 for a one-year assignment at Embassy Kabul.

Aaron Wellman ’99, of Ann Arbor, Mich., is director of strength and conditioning for the University of Michigan football team, responsible for the daily strength training of 90 to 100 student-athletes.

2000s

Erik Stevens ’00 of Fishers, Ind., is a senior chemist for Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis.

Adam Hohman ’01 of North Manchester is director of admissions for Manchester College.

Kevin Myers ’01 of Indianapolis, a licensed clinical social worker, is providing private practice therapy services for Indiana Health Group and is a full-time social worker for the Stress Center of St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital.

Alex Hawkins ’02 of Gary, Ind., earned a master’s degree in teaching and
learning with technology from Ashford University. He is with Charter School
of the Dunes in Miller, Ind.

Pemba Sherpa ’02 of Sonoma, Calif., is co-owner and chef of Taste of the
Himalalyas restaurant in Napa, serving a blend of Nepalese, Tibetan and
Indian cuisine. Sherpa completed culinary school in the South Bay area. Visit

Lisa D. Updike ’03 of Fort Wayne, Ind., was named one of 15 “Up and Coming Lawyers” by The Indiana Lawyer. She was chosen based on her
professionalism and community leadership in Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana. Updike is an associate attorney with Barnes & Thornburg LLP, Fort Wayne.

Ian Webb ’03 of Fort Wayne, Ind., is marketing and advertising manager for Auctions America by RM, classic car and motorcycle auction company in Auburn, Ind.

Jill Kline ’04 of Milwaukee, Wis., is an advocacy coordinator for the Wisconsin Humane Society. She received a United Way of Greater Milwaukee Philanthropic Five award honoring community leaders for extraordinary commitments of leadership, volunteerism, mentoring and philanthropy to the
non-profit community of Greater Milwaukee.

Monica Rice ’04 of Richmond, Ind., is administrative assistant for institutional advancement and coordinator of congregational relations for Bethany Seminary.

Rosetta Burkholder ’04 Waichigo of Albany, N.Y., is a student at the University of Albany, SUNY and an employee of GE Energy.

Amy Eager ’05 Cox of Kokomo, Ind., earned a master’s degree in English
literature from Ball State University in May 2011.

Elizabeth Ennis ’05 Leffler of Fort Wayne, Ind., is a therapist for Bowen Center in Albion, Ind.

Nicolaas Vermeulen ’05 of Champaign, Ill., received a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from University of Illinois in August 2011. He is doing post-doctorate study at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.

Travis Poling ’06 of Richmond, Ind., is teaching English composition at Ivy
Tech Community College and Indiana University East in Richmond.

Brandon Tugmon ’06 of Elkhart, Ind., is a social studies teacher and football
coach for Elkhart Community Schools.

Alicia Sue-Ann Niedermeyer ’07 Burkett of Columbia City, Ind., earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree “with distinction” in May 2011 from Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine. She received the 2011 American Animal Hospital Association Student Achievement Award, the 2011 American College Veterinary Surgeons Surgical Proficiency Award, the 2011 American College of Veterinary Anesthesiologists Student Award for Clinical
Proficiency and the 2011 G. Edward Cummins Compassionate Care Award. Dr. Burkett will pursue a small animal internship at Northeast Indiana Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Kristen Caldwell ’07 Gardner of Fort Wayne, Ind., is an assistant product
director for DePuy Orthopaedics in Warsaw, Ind.

Andrea Numbers ’07 of Fort Wayne, Ind., is a senior specialist in regulatory
affairs for Zimmer Latin America, providing consultation for country-specific
regulations and working with the corporation’s business units to ensure licenses and registrations are current.

Mohammed AbuZayda ’08 of Cleveland, Ohio is a tax associate for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Cleveland.

Carrie Darnell ’08 of Greenfield, Ind., is director of social services and director of marketing and admissions for Essex Nursing and Rehabilitation
Center in Lebanon, Ind. She received a master’s degree in social work and health care in May 2011 from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

Breann Peters ’08 Kroft of Knox, Ind., is a Head Start teacher for Marshall-Starke Development Center Inc. in Plymouth, Ind.

Felix Lohitai ’08 of Erie, Pa., is an instructor and case worker for Northwest
Tri-County Intermediate Unit 5 in Erie. He works with refugees and immigrants seeking language proficiency and other relevant skills to adjust to living in the United States.

Wendi Coffey ’08 Moon of Fort Wayne, Ind., is a probation officer working
with repeat operating-while-intoxicated (OWI) offenders in Allen County,
Ind.

Matthew Pallidino ’08 of Davenport, Iowa received his Doctor of Chiropractic this fall from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport.

Stacey Goins ’09 of LaGrange, Ind., is an education development consultant for Lakeland School Corp. and is working on a Master of Education degree at Indiana Wesleyan University.

Stephanie Rion ’09 of Minier, Ill., is coordinator of sports medicine for Hopedale Medical Complex in Hopedale, Ill. She also is the primary athletic trainer for Olympia Community Unit School District 16 and works in the sports medicine clinic. She is finishing coursework on an MBA in healthcare
management.

Danielle Walker ’09 of Indianapolis is a selection and promotion consultant for the Institute for Public Safety Personnel Inc.

Kelsey Morris ’10 of Fort Wayne, Ind., is a special education teacher for Summit Middle School in Southwest Allen County Schools, Fort Wayne.

Ryan Adams ’11 of North Manchester is a fifth-grade substitute teacher for Tippecanoe Valley School Corp.

Brittany Betz ’11 of Chicago, is 2011 Bachelor of Social Work Student of the Year of the Indiana Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. She is a care facilitator for adults with mental illnesses for Oaklawn in St. Joseph County, Ind.
