MC Athletics

Manchester’s athletic fields are some of our most important classrooms. That’s where student-athletes learn life lessons about sportsmanship, teamwork and the power of a positive attitude.

As an NCAA Division III school, Manchester does not award athletic
scholarships. We believe that what students gain from participating in collegiate athletics is far more important than sports for entertainment’s sake. To that end, Manchester strives to maximize the number and variety of athletic opportunities for all students, regardless of race, ethnicity or gender.

More than 450 Manchester student-athletes participate in our 17 intercollegiate sports through the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. On a modest budget and with the help of a dedicated coaching staff, they do Manchester proud:

  • Our women’s athletic teams have won the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s All-Sports Trophy for five consecutive years
  • John Kimmel of Fort Wayne won the high jump event at the 2009 NCAA Division III National Championship, becoming the College’s fifth national champion
  • Andy Williams of Middlebury qualified for the 2008 NCAA Division III National Championship in men’s cross country
  • Women’s tennis has won 36 straight conference matches dating back to 2002, has captured five straight HCAC championships and qualified for the NCAA Championship three times in the past four years
  • Men's Baseball has qualified for the NCAA Championship four times in the past eight seasons and, in 2004, advanced to the NCAA Division III World Series, finishing the year ranked seventh in the nation

And that’s just to name a few.

Your online gifts to Manchester athletics perpetuate that Spartan

pride. They not only support our intercollegiate athletes, but benefit the 75 percent of all Manchester students who participate in 14 intramural sports that provide a healthy release from academic pressures and encourage students to develop lifelong fitness habits.

Step up to the plate and support students who wear the black and gold:

  • Check the schedules of your favorite sports and cheer on the Spartans during a campus visit or, perhaps, attend a road game closer to your home. Keep up with all the action by calling the SpartanLine at 260-982-5060 to get updated scores and highlights.
  • Many alumni are members of the M Association. Manchester’s intercollegiate athletes who earn a letter and have completed at least 30 academic hours are eligible for induction. Members have special lifelong opportunities to help MC athletes.
  • Participate in the annual Friends of Manchester Golf Outing in Auburn, Ind., which has raised more than $1 million since the event’s inception and accounts for about 75 percent of the non-building donations to MC athletics. Friends of Manchester gifts have paid for film-editing equipment for the coaching staff, press boxes and bleachers for several athletic fields, and much more. For information about the next golf outing on June 11, 2010, contact event chairman Jeremy Markham at 260-982-5355, or Jay Nussel, executive director of development, at 260-982-5211.
