Career Service Staff
Career Services Objectives Career Planning A. Disseminate information on the availability of career counseling through: 1. Official college publications, student handbooks, career services brochures, bulletin board announcements, and campus media. 2. Presentations to academic classes, academic advisors, administrators, alumni chapters, admissions programs, high schools, and employers. B. Provide career counseling through regularly scheduled appointments with individuals and with groups, and through seminars, workshops, and special topical programs. C. Provide career counseling to students at any point in their college experience. Students should be encouraged to take advantage of career services as early as possible. D. Help students explore occupational areas through part-time and vacation work, internships, field placements, special projects, and informational interviews with practitioners. E. Make career information available through planned programs; maintain an up-to-date career library that includes information on self-assessment, occupations, prospective employers, employer expectations, and job market conditions, demands, and trends. F. Offer a variety of methods in which the student can explore career options (e.g. reading materials, computer software, alumni connections, vocational interest assessment).
Job Search and Graduate School Assistance
A. Disseminate information on the availability and use of registration services for Career Services and admissions procedures for graduate school (including fees) through catalogs, handbooks, campus media, career services publications; and through presentations to student, faculty, alumni, and employer groups.
B. Register students, faculty, staff, and alumni who wish to use career services.
C. Collect and maintain up-to-date records, references, and career information on candidates.
D. Schedule group sessions for presentation of information on job search counseling, referral services, and graduate school admission.
E. Conduct sessions on job-seeking techniques and applying to graduate schools.
F. Discuss the ethical obligations of students, employers, and faculty involved in the employment process.
G. Arrange individual and group sessions to help students: 1. Assess and relate to the labor market their interests, aptitudes, attitudes, needs, desired life style, education, and experience. 2. Establish short and long range work goals and implement action plans to achieve those goals through graduate or professional preparation and immediate employment. 3. Collect and provide information on current and projected employment opportunities, employers and graduate school options. Information should be provided through a variety of means (e.g., employers, alumni, faculty, reading material). 4. By providing information and offering a variety of approaches to promote candidate/ employer / graduate school contacts.
